…says suspension of NSIPA’s CEO a step in the right direction

Non-governmental organisations under the auspices of Nigerian Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (NCCSO), has applauded President Bola Tinubu for what it described as a renewed clampdown on corruption in the public sector.
The group specifically commended him for approving the immediate suspension and probe of the National Coordinator/ Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), Halima Shehu, over alleged financial impropriety.
Addressing newsmen at a press conference, in Abuja, on Tuesday, Spokesperson for the coalition , Abimbola Ademola, explained that the president’s action sends a clear message to other public officers.
According to her, it goes to show that, it was no longer going to be business as usual under Tinubu’s watch. And that from now on, it was going to be zero tolerance for unethical behavior.
She further said, “Before now, we know President Tinubu does not tolerate corruption, we know he will not allow any appointee to set his renewed hope agenda back.
“So, we are pleased that he not only suspended the National Coordinator of NSIPA but ordered investigation, people need to start paying for their deeds.
“This kind of approach is what we need and it is a clear sign that Mr President has zero tolerance for corruption, it is also a sign that it is not going to be business as usual, all ministers and appointees should take note,” Ademola stressed.
The Senate, had on 18th October 2023, confirmed the appointment of Halima Shehu as the new National Coordinator of NSIPA.
The suspended NSIPA boss was the National Coordinator of Conditional Cash Transfer under the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Tinubu had on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, relieved Halima Shehu of her appointment while also giving his approval for relevant agencies to probe the activities of the agency under her watch. End.
