Former Special Adviser on Media to ex-Governor Nyesom Wike, Opunabo Inkor Tariah, has expressed confidence that Governor Siminalayi Fubara will secure a second term in office if he chooses to run in 2027.

Reacting to Wike’s recent interview, Opunabo stated that Fubara’s “mass-oriented projects” across Rivers State’s 23 local government areas have earned him the people’s support. He emphasized that nobody, including Wike, can stop Fubara’s re-election bid.

“Power comes from God,” Opunabo said. “Wike governed for eight years, and Rotimi Amaechi also governed for eight years. It’s only fair that Fubara serves two terms.”

Opunabo criticized Wike’s claim that Fubara was “lawless” and disregarded the presidential 8-point peace accord. He described the agreement as “skewed” and “lopsided,” favoring Wike’s interests over the state’s.

“The governor has shown gratitude to Wike for his role in his election, but that doesn’t mean he should be dictated to,” Opunabo said. “Fubara will not compromise the state’s treasury to appease Wike’s interests.”

Opunabo’s comments come amidst tensions between Wike and Fubara, with Wike stating he would never support Fubara’s re-election bid.”
