The Board of Abia State Football Association has impeached the Chairman of the Abia State Football Association (FA), Rev. Obioma Onyeaghala, accusing him of indulging in alleged corruption and abuse of office.
DAILY POST learnt that a vote of no confidence was earlier passed in him by the Congressmen on November 18.
The decision was endorsed by officials of all notable clubs in the State, including Enyimba, Abia Warriors, Abia Comets, Right2Win Sports, players’ association, coaches’ association and referees’ association.
Other stakeholders that also appended their signatures to sack were local government football association members, Abia State Football Association members, among others.
They alleged that Rev. Onyeaghala failed to convene a board meeting or Congress deliberation on the way forward for the football development in Abia since he was elected as Chairman.
The FA members also accused the impeached Chairman of removing the Substantive Secretary of the State FA and replacing him with his relative, as well as being against constructive advice which caused a poor working relationship between him and the Board members.
Apart from these, Onyeaghala was alleged to have used his personal bank account to receive money meant for the Abia State Football Association which he did not account for and went ahead to suspend the Chairman and the Secretary of Abia State Football Referees without due process, among other allegations.
The impeached Chairman had in a letter dated October 5, 2024, suspended the Chairman of Abia State Football Referees Council, Mr Matador Ogunta and the Secretary of the Referees, Iheanacho Chukwuemeka, accusing them of not recognizing constituted authority.
