Yobe State government under its Primary Healthcare Management Board has flagged off the second round of the 2024 Maternal, Newborn and Child Health week, integrated with state outreach.
Flagging the exercise at Nayi-Nawa Primary Health Centre in Damaturu the state capital, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Lawan Gana said the week serves as a vital opportunity to raise awareness among the lactating mothers.
“The second round of the 2024 MNCHW/SODs commencing today November 25, 2024, will run until November 29, 2024, across 356 health facilities in all the 178 wards of the state”
“This year we have planned nine essential interventions to be provided through the MNCH/SODs activities which included, Routine Immunization, Vitamin A supplementation, Ante-Natal Care services and Deworming of children. Others include Nutrition screening, birth registration, health promotion on key household practices, HIV Counseling and Testing as well as Micronutrient supplementation with SQLNS,” he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr. Babagana Kundi Machina revealed the state government is targeting 90% of the targeted population across the 178 wards of the state.
He asked all the healthcare givers to ensure that they reach all the nooks and crannies of the state with the essential healthcare services including the hard-to-reach areas.
Highlights of the flag-off was the administration of micronutrients to some selected babies by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Lawan Gana, The Executive Secretary, State Primary Healthcare Management Board, the Chairman of the Damaturu Local Government area as well as the District Head of Bulabulin in Damaturu.
