The federal government has been urged to make public its third-quarter 2022 budget implementation.

A popular transparency and accountability organisation, BudgIT, made this demand in a statement on Friday.

According to the BudgIT communication associate, Nancy Odimegwu, the budget office of the federation, the Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning ought to make the Q3 2022 budget implementation report public within 30 working days after the end of the quarter.

According to Section 30 (1) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007: “It is the Minister of Finance’s responsibility, through the Budget Office of the Federation, to monitor and evaluate the annual budget implementation diligently.”

Iniobong Usen, BudgIT’s Head of Research and Policy Advisory, speaking on the implications of the delay, said: “Delayed release of the Budget Implementation Report compromises accountability and leaves citizens in the dark regarding the management of public resources. The situation also hinders the timely intervention required when budget implementation is not going according to plan.”
